LA Trip – Travel Makeup Bag

For our recent trip to LA, I needed make up items that were
a) quick and easy to apply – since I had a toddler to dress and feed before we headed out as well
b) Versatile – to face the beach, long days out without retouching and the occasional rain
c) Reliable – would get the job done!
Which is why I turned back to my trusted old Favourites. The makeup bag was a Gift with Purchase from a Clinique purchase a while ago, I love the cheerful flowery pattern. It is really spacious and sturdy.

image4-1Face: The Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator is a top favourite, since I have dry skin it adds the perfect amount of healthy glow and base for the rest of the makeup. I kept two foundations, the Loreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint for lighter coverage and days out on the beach. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation for heavier buildable coverage, evenings out and long days where I cannot retouch as this foundation is long lasting on the skin. The Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer again is an old favorite, it is easy to apply, blend and covers those dark under eye circles within seconds. The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is a winner in my books to keep my makeup intact and withstand all types of weather and sweat so it was one of the most important things to pack in the makeup bag.

Cheeks: I turned to Nars Orgasm for the blush, you can see how much loved it is by its looks. It is the perfect peachy pink for the summer and compliments my skin tone. I love this Sleek Contour & Highlight Duo. The bronzer is completely matt, the colour is perfect for contouring and it is highly pigmented. The highlighter is great to enhance the high points of the face and add that radiant glow.

Eyes: I kept my Urban Decay Naked Palette for eyes, it is my favourite Naked Palette from all three due to its warm bronzy colours. I knew I could do various different looks from it. It is highly pigmented, very versatile, easy to blend and apply and it includes an array of beautiful colours including a black which I could use as a smudgy eyeliner. I forgot to pack my Maybelline the Rocket Mascara, which is my absolute favourite, since I used it last minute before the flight. So I bought this Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara from the Walgreens opposite to our hotel in LA to give it a go. I must say I’m not a fan, it does nothing for my lashes, no lengthening, no volume, nothing! It’s a fail in my books.

Brushes: I like all Real Techniques Brushes and these two are my must haves. The Blush Brush picks up just the right amount of product and applies beautifully. The Buffing Brush provides a flawless airbrushed finish while applying foundation. I love this H&M Tapered Contour Brush, it was a random purchase about 2 years ago and I have turned back since. It wins every time even next to my expensive Dior Contour Brush, it fits perfectly into the hollows of my cheekbones and blends beautifully. Ofcourse, I could not travel without a MAC 217 for the eye makeup, I mean I really don’t think I need to explain on that one!

Lips: I took two shades of the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams since they are long wearing and hydrating on the lips. I took Monte Carlo, a deep red for nights out and Addis Ababa, an everyday not too bright just right pink. I ended up using Addis Ababa every single day as I hardly had time to top up or change for the evenings so this pink carried me through the whole day and looks fresh and pretty.

image1-2I took my Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rollerball in White. I adore its musky scent and it is the perfect size for my handbag. I added in a couple of hair ties, bobby pins and cotton buds since you can never have enough of those and that was all! My go to items for quick long wearing makeup.
